Watercolor

Watercolour is the softest room in the palace: loose landscapes, city sketches, animals and florals with visible paper grain, wet-edge blooms and plenty of white space. The light touch suits bedrooms, nurseries, bathrooms and small apartments where heavy oils would feel crowded.

Watercolours reproduce especially well as framed art prints, where the matte paper and white mat echo the original medium. On matte canvas they gain a little texture and work at larger sizes above a bed. Groups of two or three small watercolours in white or natural wood frames are a simple way to fill a stairwell.

Colours are gentle, so place watercolours where they receive good daylight but not direct sun. Sizes run from 18 x 12 inches upwards; see the Size Guide for spacing grouped frames. Free shipping and 60-day returns on every piece.
